You don’t need a large space to grow herbs. They prefer at least 6 hours of sun and well-drained soil. If you plan to grow mint, consider planting it in a large pot in the ground. Otherwise it will spread all over the place.(trust me on that one) I successfully grow basil, marjoram, oregano, rosemary, chives, thyme, lemon balm, hyssop, and others. Herb gardens are wonderful, you’ll love it.

You can plant some herbs in pots and use your patio or deck (you can bring them in in the winter to enjoy year round). You really don’t need a huge amount of space to start an herb garden, either.
    Try: http://www.wvu.edu/~agexten/hortcult/her...
Or the book “The Complete Book of Herbs”. I got this book on Amazon.com for $16, and it has everything you ever wanted to know about cultivating, harvesting and using fresh herbs that you could ever think of :)
    Hope this helps! Good luck!

Try this guy’s site…I’ve signed up for his newsletters and he won’t spam you, but I forget his website’s name…I do, however, know you can head to iBtraveling.com and scroll down and click on “plant tips” located on the left side. I’ve learned tons from this guy. Check him out.

Check around your local garden shops for how to get things to do well in your area, sometimes even different varieties of the same herb will do better in one area and not so good in another.
