How do I start a vegetable / herb garden, although rabbits and mice?

We recently moved into our first home (before lived in apartments). I've always been kind of a frustrated gardener "I had a lot of container plants. Now that I have a huge yard, I want to start a garden vegetables and herbs. The problem is that we have a lot of rabbits that visit our yard every day, and there are mice in the field behind us (that come in our yard at times). I am an animal lover and do not want poison, traps, or otherwise "get rid" of these animals but I do not want to eat all my vegetables (or worsen the problem of the mouse). Is there anything I can do to protect my garden or discourage these animals from coming in my yard (I have a dog and a cat, but still arrive). Serious ideas would be appreciated.

One suggestion would be wonderful plant vegetables, they taste bitter and to discourage rabbits. Mice do not eat vegetables. Also, the plant most of what I want for rabbits can also have some unused my portions. Beans should be covered by compensation. They eat the flowers and never beans. You also can plant pole beans to climb bamboo pieces. You can have the bamboo in the tent and forms will also beautiful when the grains to grow and flourish in it. I planted Scarlet Runner Beans that way last year.
