What is the best way to save castor bean seeds?
I saved a bucket full of the pods two years ago and when I tried to sprout them absolutely NONE grew and I had to buy more from a garden store. Their germination was only about 25% but at least some grew. Anybody having better luck?
HI, They have a low germination rate at the best of times. PLEASE be aware that they are VERY dangerous plants. 6000 time more toxic than cyanide.
Castor seed is the source of castor oil, which has a wide variety of uses. The seeds contain between 40% and 60% oil that is rich in triglycerides, mainly ricinolein. The seed coat contains ricin, a toxin, which is also present in lower concentrations throughout the plant.
Good luck

Aren’t castor beans poisonous ? Be careful how you handle and dispose of them.
