my husband knows everything grew beans last year and saved some seeds.?

He planted the seeds that are growing well, the only problem is that plants have produced only 4 people beans. Can please tell me why?

St. Thomas Aquinas, please be more careful about the term genetic engineering. I think it meant the same as the other response that hybrid approach. The offspring of the hybrids will not be faithful to the mother plants. This does not mean it can not be good producers in their own right, just not be the same. This sounds like what might have happened the assumption that they were given the same care and conditions that the parent plants.

The offspring of hybrids will not be true to the parent plants. This does not mean that they cannot be good producers in their own right, only that they will not be the same.

This year our summer has been atrocious, no plants really understand what is happening, saving seed from runner beans is a great idea and does work, but cropping has been erratic for most people, some have done well while others poorly.
Its not the saving of the beans it is the lack of sunshine, pollinators etc. Blame climate change and watch for even higher costs for veg in the shops as growers are having similar problems!

Depends where he got the original plants/ seeds from last year. A lot of veg/fruit seeds are genetically engineered to not produce viable fruit next time so you have to buy new each year. Ones bought in supermarkets are very commonly like this. Myt garlic plants have done exactly the same thing

  4. has they have produced four beans theres every likely hood you will get
more, are you giving them enough water my runner beans are very late
    also.

Maybe your original seeds were F1 hybrids. Which means that the offspring will not be the same as the parents.
