This summer I'm going to plant a garden of fruits and vegetables, but I am new to this, I need some help first?

I live in the area Dallas / Fort Worth Texas. When should I start preparing for the garden. for example, when should I turn to all soils, mix in compost, planting the seeds in their own little things to get them started? What are the easiest vegetables and fruits that a beginner can start? any advice and advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks. and I have an acre in the back and a lot of time on my hands so the garden is going to be quite large.

Hello, I live in San Antonio area, so I can tell you a little about our area. I'm much further south, so they are much drier. But as you know that hot here in Texas, killing hot! :) I've found peppers, squash and beans and squash grow much, as long as tend to them daily. Animals are a big pest. We a lot of gophers / voles that attack gardens and eat tender young roots. Fireants are also a threat as well. Start working the land now and ask about resources to control fire ants in local nurseries. I do not advise the poisons because this is a garden to eat. They may have other alternatives. Fruits are a little more difficult to handle. We used to try strawberries, but the heat was too much and couldnt compete withthe birds. Orange and lemon trees do wonderfully well here in Texas. We have a couple of each, although only about 8 feet each have more fruit than we can handle! as 4 families!: We live in acres of land as well. Now is the time to start getting cultivated land and develop a plot design. Remember that some plants need room to walk outside and Watermellon and squash courts and a need vertical supports such as peas and tomatoes. Ask me anything you want, I'm no expert, but I really want to help
