I start growing my own vegetables and have no idea where to start
Start digging the autumn time, removing weeds, digging in well rotted manure, etc. To keep weeds at bay by mulching with old carpet, cardboard, etc. until spring, spring sowing in pots some vegetables like cabbage, or beans, etc then when your plant enough big. If you want to grow garlic and onion ideal you want to plant in pots in the fall. One good thing to establish a crop rotation, divide the plot into 4 sections. Each section has one of the four major plant groups: vegetables, sprouts, roots and alliums. legumes are peas, beans, vegetables, basically, pod, cabbage is cabbage, broccoli, etc., the roots are, well, you know alliums and root vegetables are onions, garlic, leeks, etc. The rotation should continue LBRA, say you have legumes in the upper left corner, cabbage right to be first, roots and bottom right, bottom left Alliums, you get the idea. What want to grow up to you, start easy, like peas, carrots or potatoes, etc, can get the carrot fly, cabbage are susceptible to club root and potato blight can be achieved, all very unpleasant.
